As the beginning of Fall is upon us, the days get shorter, the temperatures slowly drop and that means more time for outdoor fun. And what’s more fun than outdoor concerts? Answer: FREE outdoor concerts. Here’s my list of the top three free outdoor music events happening in McAllen this Fall.
Music After Hours
Taking place on the first Friday of every month, this long-standing event continues to have a steady fan base. Music After Hours is a free, all-ages event with more than 80 local arts & crafts vendors and live music located at McAllen’s most historic park, Archer Park. What makes things interesting this year is the addition of the McAllen Food Park located across the street. Music After Hours + Food Park Friday = A Taste of everything we love.
Las Palmas Race Park Events
This pick is a two-in-one choice. Las Palmas Race Park is the name of the venue, but they have two free events this Fall featuring top-tier talent. On September 23rd, NSN Festival and DGE Concerts celebrate 10 years of hosting events by putting on a free show, featuring The Maine along with local artists to kick the party off. The second event is the Fajita Cook-Off with special guest Kyle Park, happening October 24th, and we all know how much the RGV loves Texas Country and fajitas. Both events are can’t-miss concerts.
Sunset Live Outdoor Concert Series
This relatively new outdoor concert series has quickly become a local favorite. Sunset Live happens the second Saturday of the month, with the exception of the first one in October which will be in conjunction with Palm Fest this year.
The grandstand in Oval Park at the McAllen Convention Center sets the backdrop for this family-friendly & pet-welcoming event. You can expect local artisans and even a few food trucks on site adding to the ambiance. And for those looking to enjoy their favorite adult beverages, there are beer sales at this event.
Each one of these free outdoor concert series has something different to offer so grab your friends, bring your family and take in some wallet-friendly, moon-lit fun under the stars this Fall.
